Welcome Back!

Hello, Lovelies!

It's been awhile since we blogged and we're excited to be back! We promise to bring y'all more fun posts about everything fashion, beauty, mommyhood and more.

While I am not much of a blogger, I do LOVE fashion (I do own a boutique!) AND beauty products! Some of you may know that I have had some health issues over the past year and in January had a bout of meningitis (the worst thing ever). Because I had meningitis, I had to take steriods for several weeks. Umm, no one told me what it would do to my skin! I've always had pretty good skin until I had my son, Wright. I swear- pregnancy changes EVERYTHING! I've had a few episodes of acne due to endometreosis and hormonal changes, but nothing compared to what happened when I was on steriods. I'm too embarrassed to post a picture of what my skin looked like, so just imagine a 12 year olds skin on a 35 year old face. It.Was.AWFUL. The fun part? I'm now stuck with redness and scarring. All over my face. FUN! I had to do something about it and I searched high and low for the perfect acne wash and something for redness. Ladies, I've found the holy grail!

First of all, I wanted a somewhat natural acne medication without harsh chemicals that would cause more damage to my health. I did a ton of research and found... Relogy! It's a 2 step process with an additional spot applicator for those pesky pimples that pop up. The first step is the wash. Here's the thing I had to get used to: you DON'T wash it off your face! For the first few weeks, I would wash my face with it and rinse, then would leave the wash on without rinsing. I found that it totally dried my face out so just went to leaving it on my face at night. The second part is their moisturizer which is made from coconut milk. I'm telling you- this stuff works! It took about 4 weeks for me to really start seeing a difference, and now my face, chest and back are definitely clearing up! It's around $50- not too bad, especially because I've now been using it for 2 months and have at least another month left of the wash!

Now that I have my acne somewhat under control, I now have to deal with the scarring and redness that comes along with it. Here's my secret: It Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness. Seriously y'all, this stuff is life changing! It's around $40, but again, lasts awhile because you only need a little. I put it on after the Relogy moisturizer, then I put the It Cosmetics CC Cream on and my face looks so smooth and all one shade!

Here's my before and after pic. It doesn't look as airbrushed on as it does in the after pic, but I think you'll see the huge difference it makes!

Can I get a pat on the back for posting this picture on the world wide web?!

If you're looking for a new beauty regimen, I highly recommend these products. Try it and let me know what you think!!

Hope y'all have a great week.

xoxo,

Marie

Holiday Cooking

It's that time of the year again! Time to gather around with the family, and have your Grandma's favorite cookies. It's always fun to try new recipes! So I grabbed a couple of my favorite, that are traditions in my family, to share with you ladies.

Magic Cookie Bars

 1/2 cup butter, melted
1 1/2 cup graham cracker crumbs
1 (14 ounce) can Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk
2 cups semisweet chocolate chops
1 1/3 cups flaked coconut
1 cup chopped nuts

Preheat over to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.  Coat a 9x13 baking pan with no-stick cooking spray.

Combine the graham cracker crumbs and butter. Press into bottom of prepared pan.  Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over crumb mixture.  Layer evening with chocolate chips, coconut, and nuts.  Press firmly down with a fork.  Bake 25 minutes or until lightly browned.  Cur into bars or diamonds.  Store covered at room temperature.

Candy Cane Kiss Cookies

  • 10 Tablespoons (145g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 egg yolks*
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 and 1/2 cups (190g) King Arthur unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • sprinkles
  • 24 Candy Cane Hershey Kisses
  •

Preheat oven to 350F degrees. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats. Set aside. Using a hand-held or stand mixer with a paddle attachment, cream the butter and sugar together on medium speed for 5 full minutes, scraping down the sides and the bottom as necessary. Add the egg yolks and vanilla, beating on medium-high until fully combined. Scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl as necessary. In a medium bowl, toss the flour, baking powder, and salt together. Add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients on low speed until fully combined. The dough will be very thick. If the dough is extremely sticky, chill for at least 45 minutes.

Roll dough into balls, a little less than 1 Tablespoon of dough each. The dough may seem dry*, but the warmth of your hands will allow it to come together in a ball. Roll into assorted sprinkles and bake for 8-10 minutes. The cookies will look very, very under baked. That's what you need. Do not over bake. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes. Press a Hershey Kiss into the center and immediately put the cookie sheet into the freezer for 5 minutes. Doing this will prevent the kiss from melting. Cookies remain fresh tightly covered at room temperature for 1 week. Cookies may be frozen up to 2-3 months. Cookie dough balls may be frozen up to 2-3 months. Roll into sprinkles right before baking. Do not thaw; simply bake for an extra minute or two.

    Holiday Puppy Chow

  • 14 Cups Chex cereal
  • 18 oz holiday M&Ms
  • 12 oz semi sweet chocolate, bar or chips
  • ½ Cup unsalted butter
  • 1 Cup peanut butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4-5 Cups powdered sugar
  • Melt the peanut butter and butter in a microwave safe dish. Microwave in 30 second intervals until butter is melted. Add the chocolate a little at a time until all is melted into the mix. You might need to microwave one last time to make sure everything is melted and add the vanilla. Stir together. In a large bowl add half of the cereal.Drizzle half of the chocolate peanut butter mixture into the cereal in the bowl. Mix with a spoon.
  • Place one large paper bag into another one. Add ½ cup of the powdered sugar and half of the mixed cereal into the bag. Close this tightly and shake vigorously. Add more powdered sugar ½ cup at a time if needed until all the cereal is coated. Add ¼ of the m&ms into the bag and toss. Place in an air tight container.Continue these step with the remaining ingredients.Keep stored in an air tight container. I personally love to keep it in the freezer, YUM!

Merry Christmas from the P & C family to yours! We hope you have a fabulous Christmas & Happy New Year!

    XOXO

    It's a blanket...It's a scarf...It's a Blanket Scarf

Happy Saturday Ladies!!! It’s gorgeous here at your favorite Houston boutique. We are overly excited about our new arrivals, especially our Perfect Blanket Scarf. We mean blanket when we say it! This scarf can be dressed up for a fabulous holiday party, and dressed down for some weekend errands. There are about 500 ways to wear this scarf, but we are going give you step-by-step directions to our top 3 favorite ways.

    #1 Style: Half-tied

    - First, start with your scarf in a triangle holding both sides in front of you. If the scarf is not perfectly folded and has a little twist to it no sweat, it adds to the style.

    - Next, with the scarf in front of your neck, wrap it around once so both ends are now in front on either side.

    - Then, grasp the ends and tighten so they are long and easy to tie. Cross the ends and pull one end under and through the loop (like you’re tying your shoe.)

    - Let the ends flop down and loosen the part around your neck a little. Arrange the scarf so the ends dangle evenly or unevenly if you prefer.

    #2 Style: Turtleneck

    - Like before start with your scarf in a triangle holding both sides in front of you. Wrap around your neck once.

    - First, pull the ends so they are longer, but not as long as in the previous style.

    - Next, tie a knot at the end of each side. After tucking the knot underneath the rest of the scarf.

    - Finally, loosen the scarf around your neck however you prefer. Allow the corners to hang down or separate the two corners. This fluffs the scarf a little more.

    #3 Style: Braided

    - Again, start with your scarf in a triangle and wrapped around your neck. Instead of pulling the ends long you’ll want the loop to hang down as long as the ends.

    - Then, take the loop and twist it once. Stick one hand through the opening while you grasp one end with the other hand. Take that end and go UNDER, pull through the loop, and release.

    - Take the other loop, feed it over, through the loop, and release.

    - The scarf should have one end sticking out of the front of the loop and the other end sticking out of the back.

How did you do? Which one was your favorite? Also, try draping it over your shoulders for a poncho or shawl look. It’s an excellent couch blanket too! Are you still having trouble? Come by! We would love to have a style session with you!

    Xoxo

    DIY: Pumpkin Spice Lattes

For all you Starbucks lovers out there, this blog post has your name written all over it. Us girls at P+C love a good Pumpkin Spice Latte just like practically every other human out there. Nothing says Fall like this signature drink. Although the original at Starbucks is a classic, dishing out $5 a day to indulge in heaven in a cup isn’t the most ideal situation for the fashionista’s wallet. We need that money to go towards more important things, like bags, shoes, and clothes!

We found two great recipes on Pinterest. One for a Crock Pot Pumpkin Spice Latte the other, a skinny alternative!

    Crock Pot Pumpkin Spice Latte

    Adapted from Urban Nester

    8 tablespoons pumpkin puree
    4 tablespoons vanilla
    2 teaspoons cinnamon
    4 cups strongly brewed coffee
    6 cups milk
    8 tablespoons sugar
    Whipped cream

    1. Combine milk and coffee and pour into the slow cooker. Whip together remaining ingredients – except the whipping cream – and pour into a crockpot. Mix together and use an immersion blender to get it mixed well
    2. Cover and cook in the slow cooker on high for 2 hours.
    3. Serve with whipped cream
    Found on: http://newlywoodwards.com/2013/11/crock-pot-pumpkin-spice-latte.html

Or, try our other recipe. I mean, why blow your diet and drain your wallet buying fancy coffee shop Pumpkin Spice Lattes when you can make your own skinny version at home!

We have finally entered into the final phase of summer! School is about to start, vacations are about to end, and the weather will start to get cooler, we can only hope. Summertime is always a good time, but fashion-wise Fall is just simply the best. The sweaters, the boots, the denim!! I am a huge jeans fan and I can only hope that y’all are too! (No one needs to know)  Whether you are a bootcut, skinny, flare, or boyfriend fan we have great options to pair with your favorite pair of jeans.

    Fall Whites!

Although September is here and August is over, you don’t need to shun your white clothes! The rule is no white after Labor Day, but HELLO rules were meant to be broken. Especially in warmer climates, where it feels like summer all through September and even into October strut your stuff in your white denim.  White tops are timeless and classic so those can definitely stay in your wardrobe. When it comes to those white jeans that you love, keep them out and flaunt them! Pair them with your favorite navy blazer, black leather jacket, or suede ankle booties. As long as the rest of the outfit reads Fall you can still rock them past September 1st , I promise.  Black and White are projected to be huge this next season in addition to gray anything. Pair a great gray tunic or chunky sweater with your favorite boots from now until the end of the year. Plaid is also another great option to pair with white!  Don’t forget about your other white favorites. One of ours is Summers at the Beach Dress, which we will continue to wear into fall with booties and cardigans. Need help picking out what to wear with your favorite white jeans or other white items from Summer? Come in and let us help you find some great options!

    Transition Pieces: Summer to Fall

It’s getting to be that time of year, the temperature outside is scorching, yet we are all planning our go-to fall outfits. I love fall fashion but thinking about sweaters in 90+ temps make me feel a little light headed!  My mom always taught me to shop for items that were versatile and carry across more than one season. When I have something in my hand I need to come up with at least one Spring/Summer outfit and one Fall/Winter outfit. Why not get the bang for your buck?? Some current items that we have right now that I love as transition pieces include: Gray Area, Kaleidescope, American Pie, Blushing Bride, Sheer Bliss, and Oui Madame. (Just to name a few)

Gray Area is great now over shorts. It is loose and soft, great for high temps. Gray is THE color for Fall though. This top would look great with leggings, leather pants, skinny jeans, you name it! Throw on your favorite boots, short or tall, and maybe even a black fedora or bowler if you are feeling like taking a fashion risk.

Kaleidescope is one of our kimonos which features a great graphic print and jewel tone colors. It is great over a swimsuit or casual dress during the crazy August temps. When the weather starts to cool it is great to throw on over your favorite tee or tank with your favorite jeans. You can throw it on over your workout clothes to jazz it up for a lunch date with a girlfriend!

American Pie is great now with denim or white shorts. This loose fitting top is breathable in the hot and humid dog days of summer. The embroidered detail is a great boho touch.  Pair it in a few months with your favorite boots, leather jacket, or comfy cardigan!

Our sheer tops can make an appearance any season out of the year. It is a great layering piece. Throw on a nude, ivory, or your favorite color cami, tank, or bandeau with any bottom. When the wind picks up throw on your favorite jacket!

Our Oui Madame vests are available in Champagne and Floral. These oversized vests are great for summer with your favorite shorts or dress. The menswear inspiration is going to be perfect to take into Fall. Whether you want to make a statement with the Floral or keep it neutral with the Champagne, you will have plenty of opportunities to rock this piece.

Shop these items online or stop in store and let us help you style them for Summer and Fall!
