Packing Tips for a Weekend Summer Getaway

Packing Tips for a Weekend Summer Getaway

One of the best things about summer is, of course, when you get to take a little weekend getaway. Whether a short drive or a quick flight, even just two days off for a little fun in the sun is totally necessary this time of year.

When you get ready for a quick trip like this, you don't want to stress about anything at all, especially when it comes to packing. And, let's be honest, packing is typically stressful. So, we've pulled together some of our favorite tips when it comes to packing for a weekend summer getaway.

  • Pack in a weekender bag, not a duffle or large suitcase. The last thing you want is to be carrying around large bags and having to roll around a big suitcase when you're just going away for a quick trip.
  • Only pack two pairs of shoes: one pair that goes for the beach/pool and daytime, such as Tkees flip flops, and one a tad nicer, such as wedges, for night time.
  • Lightweight fabrics and articles of clothing should be your best friend. There is no need to pack heavy fabrics because, for starters, it's summer, and secondly, lightweight clothing pack much more easily.
  • Wear your heaviest articles of clothing (and a hat if you're packing one) on the airplane or in the car.
  • Make sure to use tissue or plastic hanging bags to wrap anything that could wrinkle, and fold and lay flat in bag.
  • Put all liquids into small, travel size containers rather than bringing the big containers they come in.
  • Don't overpack. Check the weather, plan your outfits accordingly, and remember you're just going away for a couple, carefree days!

Have a great getaway!

Transition Pieces: Summer to Fall

It’s getting to be that time of year, the temperature outside is scorching, yet we are all planning our go-to fall outfits. I love fall fashion but thinking about sweaters in 90+ temps make me feel a little light headed!  My mom always taught me to shop for items that were versatile and carry across more than one season. When I have something in my hand I need to come up with at least one Spring/Summer outfit and one Fall/Winter outfit. Why not get the bang for your buck?? Some current items that we have right now that I love as transition pieces include: Gray Area, Kaleidescope, American Pie, Blushing Bride, Sheer Bliss, and Oui Madame. (Just to name a few)

Gray Area is great now over shorts. It is loose and soft, great for high temps. Gray is THE color for Fall though. This top would look great with leggings, leather pants, skinny jeans, you name it! Throw on your favorite boots, short or tall, and maybe even a black fedora or bowler if you are feeling like taking a fashion risk.

Kaleidescope is one of our kimonos which features a great graphic print and jewel tone colors. It is great over a swimsuit or casual dress during the crazy August temps. When the weather starts to cool it is great to throw on over your favorite tee or tank with your favorite jeans. You can throw it on over your workout clothes to jazz it up for a lunch date with a girlfriend!

American Pie is great now with denim or white shorts. This loose fitting top is breathable in the hot and humid dog days of summer. The embroidered detail is a great boho touch.  Pair it in a few months with your favorite boots, leather jacket, or comfy cardigan!

Our sheer tops can make an appearance any season out of the year. It is a great layering piece. Throw on a nude, ivory, or your favorite color cami, tank, or bandeau with any bottom. When the wind picks up throw on your favorite jacket!

Our Oui Madame vests are available in Champagne and Floral. These oversized vests are great for summer with your favorite shorts or dress. The menswear inspiration is going to be perfect to take into Fall. Whether you want to make a statement with the Floral or keep it neutral with the Champagne, you will have plenty of opportunities to rock this piece.

Shop these items online or stop in store and let us help you style them for Summer and Fall!

Easy Summer Sips

Summer is great time to socialize and entertain with friends, especially with delicious cocktails for those of us 21 and older. Most of us aren’t trained “mixologists,” so all those fancy craft cocktails don’t always turn out so yummy at home. We found three great recipes that we wanted to share with you, courtesy of ivillage.com!  All of them are easy to make and require few ingredients:

For an Adult Raspberry Lemonade you will need:

8 oz berry flavored vodka

10 raspberries

2 oz limoncello

Lime wedges for garnish

2 oz simple syrup

1)       In a cocktail shaker muddle together vodka, limoncello, simple syrup, and raspberries.

2)      Fill shaker with ice and shake well. Pour into glasses and serve.

For a fruity frozen drink you will need:

8 oz dark rum

8 oz pineapple juice

4 oz coconut nectar

1)      Put all in blender filled with ice. Blend until smooth.

2)      Pour into glasses and serve.

For everyone’s favorite summer fruity drink, Sangria, you will need:

1 bottle white wine

Fruit slices such as peaches, nectarines, berries, plums, and oranges

4 oz Cointreau

Mint sprigs to garnish

1)       Combine fruit and Cointreau in pitcher, allow flavors to marry, at least one hour.

2)       Add wine and serve.

Of course all of these fabulous summer cocktails would be served perfectly in one of our Texas Pride Tumblers! Available in Green, Turquoise, Blue, Pink, and Orange. Shop them in-store for $9.50 each.

Summer Styles 2014

Summer 2014 is officially here! With the high humidity and rising temps, we don’t always feel the cutest. Well we have good news for you! P+ C Boutique has some cute summer wardrobe options that will keep you feeling cool and looking fresh. My go-tos tend to be maxis and rompers. You just throw one piece on, maybe add a piece of statement jewelry, a touch of lip gloss and you are out the door. We have a quite a few options to help you out with this trend:

Rompers: Fiercely Floral, Steal My Sunshine, and Sweet Pea all feature graphic prints that let your outfit speak for itself. Add a clutch and wedges and you will totally stand out. This is our best kept secret for looking great without a lot of fuss.

Maxis: Lucky Stripes is one of the best maxis I have tried on this summer. The stripes and elastic waist on the dress are incredibly flattering. The soft material is great for summer and the silhouette gives this casual dress a little boost, so when you walk into brunch you have a touch more elegance than you really think.

For those of you who don't share my passion for maxis and rompers, we still have plenty of options for a cool, effortless, summer look in all colors!

Blues and Greens:

Boho Beginnings can be paired with denim shorts now and skinnies in the Fall! For the all-out American, red bottoms would be a great option for all of you Independence Day festivities!

Tahiti Sweetie is a great top that you can wear with spaghetti straps as tank or you can adjust the straps to make it a halter! It’s a comfortable, non-clingy shirt that you can dress up or down!

Green Light shorts are so comfortable and an easy way to incorporate a pop of color into your everyday wardrobe. The linen blend is the perfect material to keep you cool but you can totally transition these to warmer months. Throw on your favorite tee or tank during the day or a blouse at night and you have a green light to go and look great!

Pinks and Reds:

Taste of Paradise shorts feature an adorable ruffle and a great neon tribal pattern. Pair with one of our amazing Nikibiki tanks or your favorite tee in white, grey, purple, blue, yellow, orange, or black and you have a great look for day. Throw on some bling and a light sweater for night and you have another great look.

Dreamcatcher Top is super soft and easy with its pop of neon pink and blue, pair it with your favorite shorts now and jeans and a blazer later.

Haute in the Heat are another great pair of colorful printed shorts. With great coral and blue accents this will be a great addition to your summer wardrobe. Pair with any color to pull out the detail in the shorts and your fab!

Neutrals:

Rebel Rebel Shorts are the best white shorts I have found in over four years! They are extremely comfortable and flattering. Pair them with practically anything that you already have in your closet or any top available in store! Between the fit and the price, I am obsessed!

Style Hunter: This adorable top is beige with white stripes and white button detail in the back. Pair it with our Rebel Rebel shorts for a fun day out and about and throw on a blue cardigan for dinner and you are all set.

Suddenly Summer: Our friends at Southward Apparel know how to make an adorable tank. This is a deep sleeveless tank with twisted strap detail and a cool open back. Throw it over a bathing suit as a cover up to show off your sun-kissed glow or pair it with one of our colorful bandeau tops with white jeans for a night out!

Whether you are relaxing on vacation, sitting on the beach or by the pool, lounging in your backyard paradise, or even looking for air conditioning wherever you possibly can, Pomp and Circumstance has plenty of great options. Shop online 24/7 or come visit us in the store!

How to Wear a Romper This Summer

Hey P&C blog readers!

We have been seeing rompers everywhere this season and while they can sometimes be intimidating they are the perfect summer outfit. Today, we thought it would be a great idea to help you all decide which style is right for you.

  1. Choose a floral print. Floral is everywhere this summer from dresses, to skirts, to shorts. Why not incorporate two trends into one with a floral romper? Our Field Day romper is perfect for doing just that! With its short sleeves and floral print bottom we can’t get enough. Wear it during the day with some sandals and take it into the night by adding a colorful blazer and some heels!

  1. Go for a bright color such as turquoise. It’s flattering on any skin tone and adds a pop of color to your wardrobe! If blues aren’t your thing, try a nice coral shade. We find that corals are always a nice compliment to your tan, which is perfect for the summer. Grab one of your trendy statement necklaces and you are ready to go!

  1. Select a fun geometric print. A geometric print is a great alternative if floral isn’t really your thing. They bring attention to your outfit and definitely make a statement. We suggest when wearing a bold graphic print to keep your hair and makeup simple and let the romper do the talking!

  1. Go casual. While rompers can be taken into the night we love to throw them on during the day. They are the definition of summer casual because you don’t have to deal with the headache of putting an outfit together. Just throw on your favorite flouncy romper, some sandals, and a cross body bag. This combination will be perfect for wherever the summer takes you!

If you haven’t picked up a romper yet this summer we hope our tips help you pick out the perfect one for your style! If you do have a few rompers already this summer…we hope that we have maybe introduced you to a few new options that you haven’t yet explored!

4th of July Outfit Ideas

Hey P&C blog readers!

We are gearing up for the 4th of July over here at P&C and can’t stop thinking about what we are going to wear! No matter what your plans are, you don’t have to go all stars and stripes to look patriotic. We have a few ideas for you all on how to look festive without going overboard!

If you are hosting a barbeque during the day we like to go for comfort but cute at the same time. Throw on your favorite pair of denim cut off shorts and your most comfortable tank top, preferably navy or white. Add a red accessory such as a fun scarf and you are BBQ ready! Also, if you are like us and can’t go anywhere without your cowboy boots go ahead and throw those on too! P.S. if you are going to be by the water for the 4th, use your scarf as a sarong to make your pool look festive as well!

For the fireworks show at night, go for white skinny jeans and a navy striped tee. Both of these items alone are already summer staples and pair together perfectly for the subtle patriotic look. Not to mention these pieces can be worn separately any time of the year! If you want to add a pop of red to pull together that patriot look add a bright red lip or subtle red accessories such as a necklace and earrings!

Lastly, for the party in your neighborhood you want to look a little bit more pulled together. We suggest a navy dress with red heels! If you don’t have a pair of red heels try a red clutch instead! You will arrive looking sophisticated but festive at the same time.

We hope that we gave you some great outfit ideas for your 4th of July this year. No matter what your plans are, we know that a red, white, and blue ensemble is certainly in the forecast!

XOXO,

P&C Girls
